HTC Plant Company History
HTC (Harrington Tower Cranes) was formed in 2002 when P C Harrington Contractors Limited acquired the tower crane division of Hewden Stuart PLC, the equipment arm of Finning Group (UK) Ltd. P C Harrington retained the WOLFFKRAN Agency Agreement as part of the acquisition enabling HTC to be the sole UK and Ireland agent for the Wolff model tower cranes. In 2009 HTC Plant Limited acquired the Hoist division of Hewden Stuart PLC. All 75 staff was transferred over along with over 300 hoists and the depot locations including Glasgow, Sheffield and St. Neots.
Specialists
HTC Plant Limited is the agent for the German manufactured Wolff make of cranes ‘WOLFFKRAN’. With many employees with over 30 years experience in the tower crane field we believe HTC to be the premier tower crane hirer. As WOLFFKRAN agents we only hire and sell the WOLFFKRAN make of crane and this enables us to hone our expertise and specialise in what we do.‘All the stories about WOLFFKRAN and their many innovations would easily fill a technical museum. Originally founded as an iron foundry in Heilbronn, Germany in 1854 the company WOLFF was soon specializing in lifting and hoisting gear. This tradition continues today, more intensively and with more innovation than ever – a new WOLFF generation creating the new originals in crane construction’.

As agent HTC offers the complete package from single crane to multi cranes site, from internal to external climbing cranes and from static to rail mounted cranes all from our purpose built facility at the side of the M1 motorway in Sheffield. We have an ever expanding fleet of over 200 cranes comprising of luffing jib and saddle or trolley jib slew top cranes. These range from 6 tonne to 50 tonne in capacity.
HTC Plant Limited can also offer the full hoist requirement operating from 4 depots throughout the UK and a large fleet of the market leader Alimak machines. Each depot is staffed by a team of knowledgeable and highly trained professionals with a wealth of experience in all aspects of specifying and installing the most appropriate hoist solution for our clients construction projects – often requiring a bespoke dependable solution.
Professional
We seek to maintain our position of the market leader for tower crane and hoist rental market through continuous investment, both in the latest equipment and resources and in staff training and management development. However, though these elements are critical to our continued success, we appreciate that our leadership position has been gained and will only be maintained, by providing first rate service to our clients.
All our erection, service, electrical and mechanical employees and many staff are manufacturer trained each year at WOLFFKRAN in Heilbronn, Germany. This consolidation of training gives HTC Tower Cranes we believe the edge over our competitors by enabling us to focus on one type of crane system, both mechanically and electronically. To diversify with other makes of crane would dilute the resources of our workforce.
With the largest fleet of hoists in the UK, HTC is clearly seen as the market leader in this equipment.
Similarly all of our hoist division employees are manufacturer trained by Alimak in both the installation and maintenance of hoists.
As a CITB approved training centre we ensure all our employees are trained to the highest of standards.

In 2007 HTC purchased 35 new tower cranes and a further 25 in 2008 strengthening our fleet and keeping up with demand.
In 2009 HTC purchased the hoist division of Hewden Stuart PLC and kept all 75 staff and over 300 Goods Only and Passenger Good hoists.
In May 2009 HTC purchased 8 acres of land on the same road as its head office based in Sheffield in order to allow for continued expansion.
